Women's Recovery

What Is A Partial Hospitalization Program For Drug And Alcohol Addiction?

If you are a woman who has a problem with drugs or alcohol,  treatment is a solution that can help you overcome the problem and get a new start in life. Addiction creates loneliness, despair and chaos, and treatment brings healing, peace, and support.

People often try many other things before they finally turn to treatment. It is frustrating to continue trying over and over again to stop and being unable to. Treatment can break this cycle of using and quitting only to start using again. If you are ready for a fresh start, it is time to start looking for help.

Types Of Treatment For Addiction

depression

Fortunately, there are many options today for addiction treatment. It is sometimes difficult to determine which type of treatment is the right one for you, though.

The first stop for many is a residential treatment center. In residential treatment, you get support around the clock because you live there for the duration of the program. You may stay in residential treatment anywhere from one to six months or more, although a 90-day program is typical.

After you have completed a residential program, you may move on to an intensive outpatient, or partial hospitalization program. Basically, you will attend regular sessions at the rehab facility but you will go home at the end of the day. This kind of treatment may also be referred to as aftercare. The benefit to aftercare is that you continue to get the support you need for your recovery while moving forward with your life after treatment.

Sometimes, it isn’t possible to attend a residential treatment program. This may be because of work or family obligations. In this situation, a partial hospitalization treatment program allows you to get the treatment you need while still maintaining your responsibilities. A partial hospitalization program may also be called an intensive outpatient program.

What Is A Partial Hospitalization Program?

Also known as an outpatient program, partial hospitalization is a treatment program that you don’t live at. You will attend sessions during the day, or perhaps during evening hours. At the end of your session, you will return home. Partial hospitalization programs offer many of the same services that a residential program does. In addition, you will have the support of your fellow peers.

The biggest drawback to this type of treatment is the lack of round the clock support. It is very important that you are living in a safe environment where people support your efforts to get clean and sober. If this is not the case, you may benefit from living in a clean and sober living environment.

How Partial Hospitalization Can Help You Recover

While you may not live in an outpatient treatment program, you will receive all the support, structure and resources that you would have in a residential treatment center. You will be assigned a counselor or caseworker who will work with you to develop an individual treatment plan.

You will have the opportunity to heal through individual counseling and grow through group therapy. Relapse prevention, education, and other services will also be offered. You will get to know your peers and perhaps participate in outings and events that help you learn how to have fun in recovery.

Overall, a partial hospitalization program can be just as effective as a residential program, provided you have the support and safety of a healthy living environment. Additionally, this type of program makes a great follow-up or aftercare treatment after a residential rehab.

Finding The Right Women’s Treatment Facility

If you are a woman looking for a treatment program, you want a treatment program where you can feel safe, welcomed and supported. You want help overcoming your problem, and you want a treatment center that understands the unique needs of women who are struggling with addiction.

Another important consideration is whether or not a partial hospitalization program takes a holistic approach to treatment. Holistic simply means treating or healing the whole person, body, mind and spirit. While addressing the issue of addiction is, of course, important, it is equally important to address other elements of health and wellness. This is especially true in situations where a person is experiencing problems with depression, anxiety, trauma or eating disorders, for example. If these things go unaddressed, then treatment will be less effective.

The aftercare and parenting groups that Wayside had is something that helped me so very much as a new parent who was fairly new in recovery. I now have a Bachelor’s degree in social work and am working on a Master’s degree in counseling specializing in addictions counseling. If I had not been placed in Wayside House so many years ago I would have never been able to achieve the things that I have in my life. I am forever grateful for the blessing it has had in my life!”
