Specialized Aftercare Groups
Recovery is an on-going process of growth that does not end when a woman completes a phase of treatment. The Aftercare Support Services are a continuing step in the process of reintegration into family life, recovery supports and the community.
Women who have completed treatment still face many difficult challenges while at the same time having less structure and support in their daily lives. Family, social, legal, medical, vocational and emotional problems still loom large.
Aftercare support groups’ help clients develop problem-solving skills, integrate into the 12-step community and ask for help and support in their recovery. Groups are conducted weekly and can include individual sessions with a counselor as needed. Aftercare groups are not intended to be intensive therapy. Participants are held accountable for their abstinence from mood-altering chemicals, attendance and participation in the group sessions, and their implementation of a strong 12-step recovery program.
Attendance is expected for a minimum of three months. However, clients are welcome to continue and become role models for newer members. Aftercare groups specialize in one of three areas: Mother’s Issues, Advanced Issues, and Intervention Project for Nurses (IPN).
