Residential

Wayside House is a 23 bed extended care treatment facility for women aged 18 and over. Women come to us for help with addiction to alcohol and other drugs. Many are addicted to several different substances, with a long history of substance abuse, co-occuring disorders, and have suffered severe consequences as the direct or indirect result of their addiction. Many have had previous treatments but have subsequently relapsed into active addiction.

Our program is ingrained in the 12-step tradition of Alcoholics Anonymous with additional therapies, unique to the female experience, blended in. Through art, yoga, exercise, and meditation, to name a few, women participate in an array of ways to find their inner voice and express their own story.

The average length of stay in the residential program is three to four months. The actual length of treatment is individually determined based on each person’s needs.

There are two phases in the program. During Phase 1, clients are involved in intensive group and individual therapy daily. The schedule is very structured and very busy. In addition, each client works with her therapist to develop a treatment plan outlining her individual needs and strengths. A crucial aspect of treatment is for women to realize they are progressing towards achievable goals.

During Phase 2, women begin a slow process of re-integration into the community. They begin employment outside of the house during the day while continuing to participate in therapy at night. In addition, they attend 12-step support groups daily in order to begin expanding their new and healthy friendships. They begin to practice skills they have learned through their treatment experience in real-world situations, while continuing with the help and support of the Wayside family. The caring and consistency of Wayside house allows women to begin a new life free from the destruction of alcohol and drugs.
