Parenting Education

Addiction becomes a family disease. Just as the substance abuser deteriorates, the family structure and discipline fail as well. Relationships, communication, roles and responsibilities disintegrate in the chaos. Rebuilding a healthy and trusting relationship between parent and child is vital.

The parenting education group helps parents learn effective ways to relate to their children. They are grouped according to the ages of their children: birth to six years, seven to 12 years, and 13 to 18 years.

The programs focus each week on one of several topics that include understanding yourself and your child, understanding your child’s beliefs and feelings, building self-esteem within your child, listening and talking, cooperation, responsibility, appropriate and consistent discipline, to name a few. Topics are tailored to the child age range for that group.
